France WW2 Propaganda Collection: After the victorious, but very costly WW1, french strategist were planned to fight another similar war, fighting in trenches. Most of the investment for war went to a huge Maginot line, which had no role at all during the second world war. When Germany first attacked a way, it looks like following the Schlieffen plan (like in WW1), both France and Britain moved their troops to meet them like in the WW1. However when Germany attacked thru the the Ardennes and completely surprising allies troops and strategists.
While Germany was using their troops, tanks and planes with a new way – lightning war, France and Britain had no way to answer. France soon capitulated and Britain evacuated via Dunkerque. From June of 1940 until 1944, France was occupied, first partly, leaving southern France “free” governed by the puppet Vichy France until France was later completely occupied.
